INTERIO 08 and First Annual B&H Wood Industry Convention
The First Annual B&H Wood Industry Convention took place at Skenderija Center, Sarajevo on March 13-15, 2008 simultaneously with Interio 08 – 26th International Fair of Forestry, Wood Industry, Furniture, Interior Decoration and Related Industries. More than 120 manufacturers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad exhibited at the Fair.
The CCA involvement came as a result of B&H WP&F Cluster stakeholders’ request to support and improve the WP&F trade fair Interio 08. CCA, acting as Cluster Secretariat, decided to strengthen this comprehensive event, by supporting a high profile joint presentation of B&H value-added products at the fair, and by launching the 1st Annual B&H Wood Industry Convention, which was to be held during the fair.
CCA supported number of activities whose combined impact strongly elevated the value of this event:
1. Joint “Best of Bosnia” stand at the INTERIO ’08 trade show, consisted of high-quality contemporary furniture sets exhibited by eight B&H manufacturers, covering the total of 250 m2 joint exhibition area. The “Best of Bosnia” stand was designed and set up by Ad Arte Studio from Sarajevo and was awarded the 1st prize for the best designed stand. Furthermore, two WP&F Cluster stakeholders received Fair prizes: Zedex from Zenica – the 3rd prize for dinning table and chairs, and Artisan from Tešanj – the 2nd prize for chairs and the 1st prize for living room table and armchairs.
2. 2nd Business-to-Business Meeting included approximately 30 representatives of B&H companies and 15 foreign buyers and agents from Western Europe. This is the second annual meeting of this kind, representing continuity of the first CCA-supported International Export Conference and B2B meeting held in November 2006. The meeting helped extending the existing Export Agents Network, provided new business connections of B&H producers and agents/buyers working on demanding Western markets. Simultaneous exhibiting of local products at the INTERIO fair provided agents and buyers with an opportunity to visualize a wide range of B&H products. The B2B meeting was organized by StrikConsulting, Sarajevo, as a subcontractor to CCA.
3. 1st Regional Furniture and Wood Product Design Competition was organized for the first time with the aim to raise interest and crate links between B&H manufactures and designers. The Competition gathered 36 advanced wood design concepts. The competition consisted of a display of all entries throughout the fair. Designers from Sarajevo, Zagreb and Novi Sad were presented with the design awards ‘QUERCUS 08’. The Regional Design Competition was held in collaboration with Studio a4a from Sarajevo.
4. 2-day Wood Industry Seminar was organized by B&H Foreign Trade Chamber and supported by CCA and Centar Skenderija. The 2-day seminar included 26 presentations by prominent domestic and international experts in marketing and sales, technologies, design and innovation, education and training, business environment, and quality and safety standards in both forestry and wood processing. CCA made two presentations: one on cluster competitiveness activities and plans, and the other previewing the first Wood Cluster Association White Paper to be issued shortly. All presentations were published in proceedings of the seminar and distributed to the participants.
5. Multipurpose and multiuse Welcome and Information Booth designed and set-up by Ad Arte doo Sarajevo served as a meeting point and promotional space for both B&H WP&F Cluster and the newly established Wood Cluster Association in B&H. It also served as a demonstration and training point for the new BHWoodEX wood products portal in development by Strik Consulting, and co-supported by USAID CCA project.
