BAŠČARŠIJA BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT

As a result of activities commenced in February 2008, in cooperation with private companies and individuals and USAID CCA Project, the association of private companies in a city area of Baščaršija named BAŠČARŠIJA BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT – B BID was founded at the Founding Assembly held on March 15, 2008 in “Villa Orient” hotel in Baščaršija. The Association represents a strong voice advocating for government's politics and support to development of a specific district.

BID was introduced for the first time in United States of America and Canada forty years ago. Today there are around 1000 BIDs many of which are located in Western Europe while some are being developed in Eastern and Southeastern Europe including Serbia (Kruševac, Niš, Zrenjanin) and one in Tirana, Albania. The data shows that BIDs demonstrate to be quite successful and very much functional.

BID’s main activities are:

- Promotion and tourism services
- Cleanliness and beautification
- Urban environment management
- Preservation of architectural and historical values

Other BID activities:

- Developing strategy and action plans
- Implementing activities
- Organizing lobbying
- Attracting funds for joint actions
- Recruiting members

Through its operations, organization and activities, BID generates increase in revenues and value of property within the district. Through its operations and networking with the existing BIDs (worldwide network of organized business improvement districts), Baščaršija Business Improvement District would actively work on preservation and improvement of traditional values of Baščaršija, and promotion and marketing of Baščaršija as a specific tourism zone.
